I've been creating images with my camera for many years, since earning a Bachelor of Arts from San Francisco State University. I started out as a Psychology major because of my interest in the human condition and how people process and experience emotions. One day, I sat on a bench on campus and realized that while studying Psychology was interesting, I needed to be more hands on and expressive, in order to be in alignment with what felt natural to me. So, I closed my eyes for about 20 minutes and tapped in to a part of myself, to seek an answer. And, the answer came to me clearly, that because I'd always loved taking pictures as child, I'd choose fine art as my major, with my emphasis on photography. In a sense, I was applying to myself, what I would've been interested in helping other people with, had I followed through with Psychology. That is, to be able to quiet your mind, and stay true to what you feel is your authentic purpose or passion in life, as that is something that can sustain you in life and take you on a very interesting journey. My photography is about exploring the passage of time, memory, and attempting to extract, combine and emotionally process poignant moments or memories. I use my camera to explore the mystery and beauty of what is unseen and unknown, always with awareness of impermanence and the fragility of life. I believe that by viewing or creating art, not only can we be temporarily transported to a different reality, but that we can feel a sense of connectedness to others and experience healing of the soul. The process of my photography has always been extremely cathartic for me and I'm often in a flow state of mind. I spent my formative years growing up in Europe. Ever since moving to the San Francisco, Bay Area, in California, I've been mesmerized by the landscape, ocean, wildlife and the natural light of the sun, which was something I rarely experienced, in the grey, cloudy climate of Europe. I spend many hours taking long walks, often going off trails to spend time in undiscovered, quiet places that I find to be magical. I also have a deep love of and connection with generations of deer, who surround the area where I live. Observation of about 12 deer over the years, especially one doe and her offspring in particular, has been a mystical, transformative and life altering experience for me and one which I'm profoundly grateful for.
